8:27 A.M. - Wednesday, Nov. 05, 2008 We arrived 15 minutes early and already a line of cars; SUVs and pickups were sliding across gravel. There must have been twelve of us hanging out in front of the metal doors. There were no negative comments, no bickering, just small town people eager for the opportunity to be a part of this historic moment in time. Months prior to Election Day family friends and neighbors gathered every Friday at husbands aunts house where battles raged often out of control over who best was to be the President elect. Husband and I kept quiet about personal thoughts and feelings concerning the upcoming election. With battle lines clearly drawn we wouldnt have had the chance to voice had we wanted to hop aboard one ship or the other. We had our talks each evening between the two of us. What I found remarkable about election morning was the guns were back in holsters the fighting ceased. There was a look of hope on every face, pride shown in colors of red white and blue, hands shaking one an another, back slapping and each thankful for everyone that cast a vote. I was the second in line with paper ballet in handno computer screens made an appearance. Husband held ballet number three and he being 57 years old was one of the first time votershow awesome. As we exited the voting boothsthere were only twohusband was grinning ear to ear. He told me it was a wonderful feeling to have been a part of this election. With him no longer driven by booze he kept up with election coverage and was able to make a decision based on who he felt was best suited to guide this country over the next four to eight years. Last night I was late getting home and not wanting to wake husband I checked the polls via computerhusband woke up long enough to ask who was leading. Five oclock this morning I was up and back on the computera new page in history turned. How wonderful a feeling to have lived long enough to truly know anything is possible in this great country. This is a time for change, for healing, and most important a reason to hope. God Bless the USA! Sandyz
